Welcome to your simple guide to e-scooter maintenance with 3-IN-ONE. This is a beginner guide where we break down the basics so you can keep your e-scooter rolling and lasting much longer.
What you’ll need:
- 3-IN-ONE Drip Oil
- Clean cloth
- Tyre pressure gauge
- Allen key
e-scooter maintenance on tyres and wheels
- Check the pressure using a gauge for air-filled tyres.
Use a pressure gauge and compare it to the PSI printed on the tyre or in your manual. If your e-scooter tyre pressure is low: find the valve and attach the pump hose and inflate slowly. Check the gauge while doing – so you don’t overinflate!
- Check your tyre’s tread depth.
You’re looking for anything stuck in the grooves. Remove stones and check there aren’t any obvious cuts or bulges. If you do spot damage, it’s best to replace the tyre.
- Spin the wheels.
Lift the e-scooter off the ground and spin the wheel. If it wobbles, rubs or makes grinding noises, it’s likely you have loose bolts or bearing issues. Tighten loose bolts and apply a small amount of 3-IN-ONE Drip Oil directly on the wheel bearings and spin to work it in. Remember to wipe away excess so it doesn’t attract dust and dirt.
e-scooter maintenance on brakes
- Test before you ride and test while rolling.
Squeeze the brakes while stationary, you want to feel a firm pull that stops the wheel quickly. Then, test while rolling by pushing your e-scooter and braking gently.
If braking feels weak or uneven, your brake pads may be worn out or the cables might be stretched, if this is the case, replace and adjust the cables.
e-scooter maintenance on bolts and folding parts
- Check for loose bolts.
Gently try to move the handlebars, stem and folding joint. If anything’s loose, tighten using your Allen key.
- Lubricate folding mechanisms
Apply a small drop of 3-IN-ONE Drip Oil to hinges and moving parts. This will stop squeaks and prevent it from becoming stiff.
e-scooter maintenance of batteries and charging
- Check the battery charge level
Avoid running the battery completely flat. If the range does suddenly drop, cold weather, underinflated tyres or an aging battery could be the cause.
- Inspect the charging port
Make sure it’s clean and dry before you plug in. If you see any moisture or dirt, wipe it dry and give it a clean.
- Charge correctly
Use the original charger and unplug once it’s fully charged. If the charger gets really hot or smells odd, stop using it and replace.
e-scooter maintenance on lights and electronics
- Check lights before riding
Turn the scooter on and look to see if the front and rear lights are working.
If a light doesn’t turn on, check the settings first, then recharge – if they’re still not working the light may need replacing.
- Check the display and throttle.
Make sure the screen lights up and the throttle returns. If the throttle sticks or feels jerky, stop riding and fix for safety.
e-scooter maintenance on general care
- Clean regularly with help from Drip Oil
Use a clean cloth that has a few drops of Drip Oil on it to wipe down the frame, you don’t want to put the hose on it, water can damage the electrics.
- Apply light lubrication on moving parts
Use a clean cloth that has a few drops of Drip Oil on it to lubricate the folding hinge, locking joint and kickstand hinge.
