How to store camping gear properly
It’s much easier to sort out your camping gear while it’s recently been in use because once you store it, it’s harder to remove grime that’s been sitting for months.
- Clean and dry your camping gear
Make sure you wash your groundsheets, tents, chairs and cooking equipment and make sure everything’s fully dry. - Lubricate metal tent zips
They’ve been back and forth a lot this summer, so dust the zip down first and add a drop of Drip Oil to clean and work it in to lubricate. - Assist your folding chairs
Dry hinges on folding chairs can become stiff and hard to collapse, add a drop of Drip Oil to these parts so they open and close with ease. Tighten any loose fixings and wipe down to clean. - Protect metal equipment against rust
Tent pegs and hand tools can be affected by moisture so remember to clean and dry them. Use a clean cloth with a couple of drops of Drip Oil on it to work it over the surfaces and protect them from rust. - Check everything while you still remember your last trip
When everything’s clean and ready for storage, go through one last check to make sure you have everything. Do you have all the tent pegs – were any bent that need replacing? Was there a rip in the ground sheet? It’s much better to be on it now than 3 minutes before you leave for the camp site next summer.
- Store your camping gear somewhere dry and above the ground
An airtight box is a good way to keep everything dry and clean. Floors are prone to damp so make sure they’re put somewhere they’re protected.
